Kone Wovens hopes to bring Manipuri home textiles to the global market by creating products that have been lovingly woven by amazing women who have kept this tradition alive for centuries. The founder Tampha Gupta is a Textile designer and freelance artist with a passion for revival of North East Indian textiles.

The textiles of this region has been either long forgotten or unheard of and of course taken for granted by the locals, who don’t see it as anything special. Kone Wovens is an attempt to show not only the world but also the weavers themselves how truly special Manipuri textiles really are. They hope to support local weavers who are now grappling to keep the craft alive due to the competition from mass produced textiles which are forcing the once shuttle bearing hands to shift their profession altogether.

All products are 100% cotton and the whole process from procuring the yarn to making the tassels at the ends of the towels have been executed by a woman’s hands. These towels will only get softer with each wash and have high longevity.

Its a small but dedicated team of weavers and the founder and currently 3 weavers are associated with Kone Wovens. They are N Apabi Devi, O Bina Rani Devi and O Subhasini Devi. Their dedication and skills are what keeps the venture brimming with hope and enthusiasm for the future prospects of women weavers in Manipur. Every product has been blessed by the weaver to bring good fortune to the owners as is tradition in the region.
