Wild apple is common in tropical and subtropical rain forest of Nagaland. These fruits make an important contribution to the nutrition of the rural people of Nagaland. Wild apples are processed in different forms and are sold in local markets.
This process helps in turning the raw fruit into sweet and tangy candies that can be savored for its appetizing effect or because it is just too addictive. Apart from its addictive flavor, wild apples are quite popular for its multi-vitamin and multi-medicinal value as it is known to be good for those who have high blood pressure, diabetic, heavy body weight, fatigue, general weakness. Because of its medicinal values, the fruit has been named as the “Health fruit” by the Nagas.
Launched in 5th of June 2014, Green Caravan is a joint venture between Zynorique Initiatives and 10th Northern Angami 1 A/C. The inauguration was completed by Shri Khriehu Liezietsu, a Parliamentary Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Music Task Force (MTF) and Chairman of Kohima District Planning and Development Board. The main objective of the organization is to boost the rural economy by creating effective market links and also to add value and assist in branding to the local farmers.
How it is prepared: To prepare wild apple fruit candy, firstly the skin is peeled off; the fruit is then sliced and soaked in sugar syrup for 24 hours and lastly sun dried for few days.
