Exquisite woolen carpets are handwoven by artisans at the Directorate of Handloom & Handicrafts in Gangtok, Sikkim. It is the expertise of the women artisans that take beautiful forms and designs on these wonderful carpets. Only pure and naturally dyed wool is used in the weaving of these items


Different intricate and unique symbolic patterns like Snow Lion, Tanka & Rhododendron Flower are woven into these carpets reflecting great elegance and beauty. One of the patterns the Snow Lion, is the vehicle of the Buddhist deities. Snow lions are royal, sacred and rare animals, and therefore patterns with their prints are a huge crowd puller. Another pattern, the Tanka is a holy symbol in Buddhism which signifies peace for the souls of mankind.

Bringing home carpets with Tanka symbol symbolizes homecoming of eternal peace and harmony among family members, friends and relatives. The Rhododendron flowers, stand as the state symbol of Sikkim. During April and May, these flowers enjoy full bloom, which is a spring season for this species. Barsey, a village in West Sikkim celebrates their annual festival every year to mark the spring season of the Rhododendron.
