The Taste of Manipur

An essential ingredient to the Manipuri cuisine and relished by every community in the northeastern states of India, the ngari or fermented dry fish is almost a daily requirement for the Manipuri kitchen. Similar in taste to Fish sauce which is used widely among the south-east Asian countries, the Manipuri ngari comes in a solidified form and is fermented in locally made earthen urns/jars.

Khwairakpam Gambhir, a retired civil engineer, from Sekmai bazaar, Imphal East, Manipur, pioneered the business. He has been in the trade since 1958 and currently runs a hectic industry. His packaging unit employing around 50 persons produces nearly 1500 packets of ngari daily, each dry fish packet weighs approximately 250 gms . His packaged and non-packaged fish has clientele which reaches from Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal to the metro cities of Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata. His product which is famous for its taste and quality is widely known as ‘Sengmai Ngari.’

Good Quality Shidol (Fermented Fish)!!
I had ordered this product and it took around 7 days to reach my door.

The product is not dry fish but fermented fish which is also known as shidol, chepa shutki etc.

This is basically "Puthi Shidol", but unlike other Puthi shidols its not bitter in taste, the smell (pre & post cooking ) is just fabulous.
The quantity of the shidol in the packet is the same as mentioned in the packet.

The price looks a bit on the higher side. But, the quality of the product compensates it very well.

I would love to buy it again and again. Thanks for availing the product, who stay away from home.
