The soft toys available on giskaa.com have been manufactured by enterprising women from Gangtok, Sikkim. An initiative of Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom (DHH) in Sikkim, a set of women are involved in making soft toys to make a living, heading towards a sustainable way of employment. This has been possible through the setting up of a toy making institute and production unit by the DHH in an effort to bring the neglected set of women, especially school drop-outs, to the field of development and empowerment. One of the trainees, Choden beams with happiness, “I learnt to make soft toys of Tiger, Red Panda and various other animals. In the institute we are earning, learning and keeping ourselves busy”.

Some of the best raw materials are being used to create these soft toys. Additionally, special emphasis has been given to promote products that are eco friendly and also greatly identifiable with the local traditions, culture, emotions and ethos of Sikkim.
